The Neuronal Controlled HAL Robot Suit Helps Patients with Immobility

Cyberdyne is a robot that uses HAL [ Hybrid Assistive Limb] technology and is created to help people with immobility [who have lost the use of their lower limbs] rediscover the joy of walking. The robotic suit uses the patient’s intention to move the legs. HAL improves the function of the wearer.

The hybrid assistive limb (HAL) is a wearable exoskeleton robot that assists walking and lower limb movements via real-time actuator control. The Wearable Cyborg™ HAL can provide assist control to the sagittal plane movements of the hip and knee, bilaterally.

Features of HAL

Cyberdyne Treatment uses HAL to restore the functions of the wearer. Cyberdyne’s Robotic device is well-suited to assist in the area, based on HAL’S ability to carry out simple, repetitive tasks with consistency.

The HAL Robot suit is programmed to guide a patient through a series of specific motions while maintaining a prescribed level of support and restricting undesired movements.

Treating Immobility with Cyberdyne HAL

Any movement in a person’s body causes nerve signals to transmit from the brain to the muscles via motor neurons, causing the entire musculoskeletal system to move. Just before this movement, light “bio-electrical signals” leak out to the skin’s surface.

The Wearable Cyborg™ HAL can read these signals and control the power unit to assist joint movement simultaneously with the person. Interactive biofeedback is now promoted in and outside the body between HAL, brain, nervous, and muscular systems. This Cyberdyne treatment method promotes functions of the lower limb, upper limb, and body trunk.

This functional regeneration technology using Wearable Cyborg™ HAL is an innovative treatment that enables the improvement of human brain-nerve-musculoskeletal functions by activating the body’s self-healing ability that humans are naturally in possession of. A condition has to be fulfilled before a patient is dressed in the HAL.

As the Robot – HAL is just a conversion device, it needs the body of the patient to offer sufficient electrical signals, which means the nerves connecting the legs of the patient to the brain must still be slightly “alive.” The artificial limb builds on the body’s natural ability to heal itself. The HAL only needs the patient to offer a percentage of the work; from there, the HAL can use the patient’s intentions to produce results.

Rehabilitation

Cyberdyne treatment provides advanced rehabilitation technologies for the well-being of patients around the world. HAL is also considered the system that accelerates motor learning of the brain which eventually leads to the neuroplasticity of the brain functions.

The purpose of HAL is to create an ideal future by researching, developing, and manufacturing innovative Cybernics systems, with a focus on improving medicine, welfare, and daily life. An important part of robotic technology research in Cyberdyne treatment is involved with ‘lower extremity rehabilitation. When HAL completes assisting the intended movement, the feeling is fed back to the brain. Active use of the neural pathways for voluntary movement with physical feedback to the brain leads to an important ability for the wearer to walk on their own, providing relief from immobility!
