The Cyberdyne HAL Treats Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

HAL® is the world’s first cyborg-type robot that enables, supports, and improves a wearer’s motor function, ability, and performance. The Wearable Cyborg™ HAL provides medical treatments for the functional improvement of patients with Multiple Sclerosis including cerebral embolism and stroke.

Principles of The Wearable Cyborg for Multiple Sclerosis

  • The Wearable Cyborg™ HAL enhances overall well-being to maintain a high quality of life and independence.
  • The Hybrid Assistive Limb helps individuals across the world regain their ability to walk through our non-invasive BES-sensing technology solution
  • The Wearable Cyborg™ HAL Hybrid Assistive Limb improves mobility wellness for post-accident-causing stroke and post-surgery recovery.
  • BES– Bio-sensing technology help in mobile wellness, which means the ability to move about without outside assistance.
  • HAL builds on the body’s natural healing ability.
  • Cyberdyne HAL® only needs the patient to offer a percentage of the work; from there, the HAL can use the patient’s intentions to produce results.

Cyberdyne Treatment uses HAL® to improve the function of the wearer. The treatment targets neuromuscular diseases and more.

HAL follows a specific procedure in the treatment…

  • A signal is transmitted from the brain to the muscles through the nerves according to the intention of movement, and at that time, weak bioelectric potential signals leak to the body’s surface. HAL detects the wearer’s bioelectric potential signal with a sensor attached to the skin and realises the action.
  • The brain then sends nerve impulses to the leg muscle and the sensors on the patient’s skin register these impulses. Faint “bio-electrical signals” reflect a person’s intention to leak out to the skin’s surface. HAL can read this signal and control the power unit to assist joint movement in unison with the person.
  • Using HAL, which utilises the bio-electrical signal that reflects the wearers’ intended motion, promotes interactive biofeedback in and outside the body between HAL, brain, nervous system, and muscular system. The effect of this treatment method to promote functions of the limbs and body trunk is being reported through clinical application.
  • The key to promoting functional improvement through Cyberdyne Treatment is not just transmitting voluntary command signals from the human brain to the musculoskeletal system via the spinal cord and peripheral nerves, but more so on the return of feedback from the sensation of actual movement to the human brain.
  • The ‘Functional Regeneration Technology’ using the Wearable Cyborg™ HAL is an innovative technology that enables the improvement of human brain-nerve-musculoskeletal functions by activating the body’s self-healing ability that humans are naturally in possession of.

Howell’s Testimonial

Before HAL, I could use a walker but it wasn’t anything practical,” said Howell. “I couldn’t do it on my own. I had to have someone right there with me. Now, it’s easier to stand up on my own with the walker after Multiple Sclerosis because of Cyberdyne. I’m gaining more confidence in getting around with a walker on my own, in real-life situations, instead of just at therapy.” Working on my walking, and focusing on doing something every day.
